How much does a market card cost?
The rulebook states this plainly, and forum replies agree.

The leftmost column is free, then one rupee, two, and so on to the right. To pay, put one rupee on each card in your chosen card's row that lies to its left. You then take the card and any rupees on it. Rupees already on that card can't be used to pay for it.
