Only the 3-cost Gear currently on the board returns to the Gear deck; Gear you own stays. You may buy only the top card of each Gear pile. Solo Hikers buy Gear with no first-Hiker discount, and Gear cards used for Ranger movement stay in their slots rather than being discarded.
