Does copying a site with the River give me its weather token or trigger gear that names that site?
The rulebook says copying doesn't count as visiting that Site.

No to both. The River copies only the site's action; you aren't on that site, so you don't collect its weather token and it doesn't count as visiting it for gear like the Water Filter. Season effects still apply to tokens you gain.
