Can first-printing base cards without icons be mixed with the expansions?

Yes. Nightfall does not depend on the card backs, and the Wildlife cards differ from first-printing cards only in their backs, so mixing is fine. If you want matching backs, Keymaster has offered a discount on a new copy in exchange for donating your original and sending a receipt.
