When one negative option is impossible, must I take the other, and can I pick one with no effect?

You take whichever negative option you can actually fulfill, and a wound or skull option is always available. You may only choose a negative option that would do nothing when no other negative option can be fulfilled. For example, a Wolf's 'discard a torch' cannot be chosen if you have no torch, and an Elephant effect that removes traps does nothing if you have none.
