How much does a clothing (cloth) token prevent, and is it discarded after one use?

It is a one-time token: discard it to prevent up to 3 damage from one instance, and it is spent even if it prevented only 1 or 2. It cannot save up damage over several turns. One cloth can cover up to three humans against an effect that deals 1 damage to each; against several red cards discarded at once, each red card is a separate event, though the designer would not mind more. Two clothing tokens exist in the game.
