Can I invite a guest who costs money, such as a pauper, if I cannot pay the full cost?
The rulebook explains how the pauper's cost is paid and the designer confirmed the guest cannot attend otherwise.

No. All requirements for an invitation must be met, money included. The cost is paid during Enjoy Favours, so you can cover it with other pound favours from the same activity or with a special action that converts reputation to money. The one exception is reputation loss: at the lowest reputation you cannot fall further.
