If a defending ally is defeated by a boost card, does the attack still resolve against the ally?

The attack counts as undefended, so the damage goes to the attacked player's hero or alter-ego. The Rules Reference says that if a defending ally is defeated before damage is dealt, for example by a boost ability, the attack is considered undefended.
