Does damage from a boost ability count as damage from the activation, so that Sweeping Swoop stuns a friendly character?

No. Damage from a boost ability is not damage from the attack, and so it is not damage from the activation either. Sweeping Swoop therefore does not stun when the only damage comes from a boost effect such as Concussive Blast. An FFG rules specialist's 2022 written answer confirms this.
