How can villages be conquered, and is the picture in the rules about it correct?
Cities and flags can only be conquered through a combat action. Villages are conquered with a ship-board upgrade (during combat, or as a village action in the village where your ship stopped) or with cards such as Conquer Village on any free village; the cube goes beside the village circle. The designer acknowledged that the rulebook picture of the village-conquest action should not show the three houses, so follow the text, not that picture.
