Do I score 2 VP per assistant still ahead of my ship at the end of round 4?
The designer ruled for scoring in round 4, although the literal rule text points the other way.

Yes. Unused assistants score 2 VP at the end of every round, also before final scoring, even though in round 4 the ships do not return to Havana. Read literally the rule only applies when ships go back to Havana, but the designer says the intention is that they always score, and confirmed that this also happens in final scoring.
