How does a monster choose its route when moving toward something?
The rulebook text answers this directly.
It takes a shortest route through spaces it can legally enter, where each space must reduce the distance to the target. Walls and impassable borders cannot be part of the path, but Barricades and fire do not make it detour. If several routes tie, the investigators choose as a group.
