What happens when I must take Corruption and the track is empty?
The rulebook rule is quoted by players; the board-space exception is one player's reading.

You immediately lose 10 VP for each Corruption token you could not take from the track. Players note this applies when the token would go into your Tavern, not to effects that place Corruption directly on a board space.
