How long does a location stay active, and can I travel after a failed quest?
The rulebook states players cannot travel while a location is active and travel is its own phase.

It stays active until it is explored or a card replaces it. You can't travel to another location while one is active, so a staging-area location is simply ignored until then. Travel doesn't depend on quest success, so you may travel after a failed quest if no location is active. The active location is not part of the staging area.
