Can I pay réis instead of Influence even if I still have Influence?

Yes — once a board space or Clergy tile gives you that option, you can pay money in place of Influence at any time, not only when your Influence is at zero. It is optional. You receive no coins when you spend Influence for réis, and unused Influence cannot be converted to money before game end.
