Does Recruit that Mercenary spends as Attack count as a coordinated Attack for killing Ash?
The designer said the coordinating card must itself generate Attack to satisfy Ash.

No. The designer says the coordinating card itself has to generate Attack (so not a Sergeant) to satisfy Ash's requirement. Spending coordinated Recruit as Attack through the Mercenary does not change that.
