How does Close Encounters' -2 work?
The designer explained the stacking and the next-enemy timing.

The card deals its own damage and also gives -2 to the next Enemy you fight in the Combat Zone after playing it, not to enemies fought earlier. Several copies played before the fight all hit that same enemy, or you can use one on an enemy, then play the next for the following enemy.
