Obstacle blocks survivor and monster field of view, which interrupts ranged attacks and monster targeting that needs field of view. Draw a line between the centers of the two bases: if it touches an obstacle space the view is blocked, even at a corner. The monster's own occupied obstacle spaces don't block it. It doesn't stop a monster's facing or Pick Target lines that ignore field of view.
