Do Initiative kills or a battle card's own sacrifice count for the Devourer?
The publisher posted this as an official ruling, agreed with the designers.

No on both. The two kills must be units you destroy during the battle phase. Initiative kills happen before the battle, and units lost to your own +5 strength card do not count.
