Does Protection or the Escape DI card stop Initiative?
The publisher's official FAQ states both rulings, and the designer confirmed the Escape case.

Initiative resolves before the fight, so Protection (which applies during combat resolution) does not affect it. If the defender plays Escape there is no battle, so Initiative does nothing.
