In the Deploy example on page 22, why are no officers lost when a six appears among the dice shown?

The dice pictured are the Deploy check dice, not the loss check; the crossed-out dice show the strength penalty, not rolled dice. The example is confusing as drawn. Loss checks roll one die per exhausted officer, and each 6 returns that officer.
