When the opponent leads a color card, can I play a Potion instead of following color?
The rulebook says you must follow the led color or may play a Potion instead, and may play anything if you lack the color; forum replies agree.

Yes. If you hold the led color you may play it or a Potion, and if you lack it you may play any card. You are never forced to play a Potion unless you have nothing else.
