How does the card that moves me to a corner place work?

It replaces your 1-2 place movement and works from anywhere, not only in a straight line. You then still do the rest of the movement phase: collect or leave an Assistant at the corner place and pay Merchants there, and if you cannot drop or collect an Assistant your turn ends as usual. It is not the Tavern movement tile.
