Can I play a bonus card in the middle of an action, for example to get a missing good before paying?
Several replies agree and one card's printed note says the same, but the rulebook does not state it for all cards.

No. Bonus cards are played before or after an action, not while carrying one out, so a card cannot supply a missing resource mid-purchase. The "Gain 1 good" card states this explicitly, and a 2015 reply says the older "whenever you like" wording was removed from the rules.
