Can a color be splayed in two directions at once, or splayed again in the same direction?

No. A color has one splay state at a time. Splaying in a new direction first unsplays the pile and then splays it the new way, so the whole pile changes. Splaying in the direction it already points is legal but reveals nothing new and, for sharing, isn't a change.
