Dig events (a Meld action that covers a card meeting the dig conditions) take an artifact of the covered card's age onto display. If that age has no base cards left it counts as empty and the dig uses the next age with base cards; if no artifact is available the dig is ignored. Splay is ignored when matching hexes. Dig events count as draws for triggers like Hatshepsut. If you already have an artifact on display, the dig event is ignored.
