Can I play Warlord to start a clash where no opponent is present?
The designer ruled on this repeatedly, and a 2026 designer reply says the third-edition card was changed.

It depends on the edition. The designer ruled several times (2017 and 2020) that Warlord can start a clash with only your own clans there, for example to withdraw clans without causing another clash; a quoted errata note agreed. In 2026 the designer said the third edition reworded Warlord to need a shared territory because the old wording raised too many questions, so with the new wording an opponent must be present. Use the wording printed on your copy.
