What does Freedom to Move mean, and can a piece move into or out of a space surrounded on several sides?

The designer clarified the rule's wording in 2015, and it matches the rulebook's Freedom to Move section.

Pieces other than the Grasshopper (which jumps) and the Beetle (which can climb) must physically slide. A piece that cannot slip out of its spot cannot move, and no piece may slide into a space it could not slip into. What matters is whether the gap is wide enough to slide through, not how many neighbours there are: a piece can be blocked by as few as three neighbours, and a five-neighbour space is not automatically closed. Newly placed pieces are exempt.
