Where can a Soldier Ant move, and can it get inside a ring of pieces?
The designer confirmed the ring case in 2005, and the rulebook's Soldier Ant section describes the free movement.

The Ant can slide to any empty space around the outside of the Hive that it can physically slide into, however far, while staying in contact with the Hive. It cannot climb on top or jump, and it cannot enter a gap too narrow to slide into. An Ant in the middle of a ring of pieces stays in the middle and an Ant outside stays outside.
