How many extra pieces does displacing cost, and does the displacing piece's type matter?

Displacing a trader costs you one extra piece moved from your supply to the stock; displacing a merchant costs two. Only the type of the displaced piece matters — a merchant may displace a trader and a trader may displace a merchant. The displaced owner then places the displaced piece plus one extra (two for a merchant) from the stock.
