Can I point out that a firework can no longer be finished because of the discards?
The rulebook states this directly.

Yes. The discard pile is public, and the rules say to mark a firework you cannot complete, for example by pulling out its last card. Cards of that colour can then be discarded safely to regain clue tokens.
