A group is a set of same-coloured, orthogonally adjacent rooms. When you turn the last room of a group to occupied, by a guest or by an effect, you immediately get a bonus that grows with the group's size: Emperor spaces for yellow, VP for blue, krone for red. A one-room group counts too. Only some board sides have the four-room blue group, so check your board.
