When can the goods from a Trading Ship trade be used, and can I upgrade goods I just received that way?
The traded goods sit in the ship's empty spaces and are collected when ships are emptied in Inventorying, so loading is not required and the empty spaces determine how much you get. Goods received this way cannot be upgraded in the same season. The designer notes that paying while unloading is a gameplay convenience.
