Can several players research the same Specimen?
The rules have each player place their own Research token and allow delivery only if the tile is not in the Museum.

Yes. Specimen tokens are never removed from the Island and Ocean tracks, so any player passing can place a Research token on their own board. Only one player can deliver a given specimen to the Museum, unless a Repeat Delivery lets someone re-deliver it.
