How does the Darwin worker from the Darwin mini-expansion work?
Only one player can claim it per round, via the Darwin Crew card or Special Action tile. It counts as your worker with six purple seals and the silver and gold distinctions, so it pays the placement penalty in an occupied Diary. You cannot place two workers in one turn, so it waits for a later turn, and you must use it that round because the Action Phase ends only when all workers are placed. It does not replace one of your regular workers, cannot achieve a Crew card, and returns to the Special Action tile at cleanup.
