Can I react to Whiskers' own dragon attack, and does he take Ghost damage?

Whiskers' own dragon attack resolves when you end your turn, before you draw your next hand, so you have no cards in hand to react with during it. He still takes damage from Ghost cubes, since his ability only blocks cubes of his own colour.
