Must the captain play his Equipment cards, or can he use a Turbo instead?
The publisher ruled on this, and the rulebook says Equipment is mandatory and Turbo is not.

Equipment cards must be played when the captain can beat every challenge with them. Turbos are optional. The designer's later answer lets a Turbo stand in for an Equipment card when the captain succeeds, but he cannot choose to fail while holding the needed Equipment. An older 2016 reply that allowed Turbo only when Equipment was missing is superseded.
