If I eat a donkey from my mine to pay for feeding, does the Mining Cave still reduce the cost?
No. Convert what you need first and then pay the Food cost in one go; once the donkey is eaten it no longer counts for the Mining Cave, so you cannot eat it to lower the very cost you are paying.
