What happens to a monster when I replace its upgrade card with another monster?
Several players agree and a CMON producer allowed replacing with open slots.

The replaced monster leaves the game: it goes back to the box from wherever it is (board, reserve or Valhalla), not to Valhalla, so it earns no destroyed-figure Glory. You may replace a monster upgrade even if you still have an empty monster slot, but you cannot simply discard one without replacing it.
