Does pillaging or playing a battle card cost Rage?
The rulebook says a pillage is free and lists Rage costs only for the other actions.

No. Starting a pillage is free (though you cannot act at all at 0 Rage), and battle cards cost nothing; they just add their strength. Rage is spent on invading, marching and upgrades.
