How does the Pukka's delayed kill work, and why does the victim become healthy?

The Pukka poisons a player; the next night the previously poisoned player dies and is healthy again, and the new target is poisoned. The poison clears whenever the attack on that victim resolves, even if protection stops the death, so the victim is healthy afterwards and their own abilities, such as the Moonchild's, work normally.
