How do I get access to Level IV technologies, and what if I research one in a private slot?
Several experienced players agree; there is no official ruling.

Research the prerequisite technologies leading up to it, or unlock a Guild on the left of the board (less efficient). A Level IV tech researched in a private tech's slot goes onto the main board and still needs two Level III prerequisites besides the private tech.
