Can Sacrificial Construct prevent a card being trashed as part of a paid ability cost, like Self-Modifying Code?

Question

Accepted Answer

You can prevent the trash, but because the cost was not fully paid, the ability's effect does not happen. The rulebook treats a cost as paid before its effect, so Sacrificial Construct only throws away the card for no gain.
