Can I place a family member on an action space I can't actually use, just to block another player?
A publisher account and the designer both ruled this, and the rulebook's 'at least one action' wording agrees.

No — you may only occupy an action space if you can carry out at least one of its actions, so blocking with a space you cannot use (no grain or field for Sow, no room for Family Growth, no wood for Fences) is illegal. Merely taking goods you then cannot store or choose to discard is fine, because taking them is the action.
