Does my first pasture (or field) have to be next to my house?
A designer account said neither needs to touch the house, matching the rulebook.

No — your first pasture can go on any empty, contiguous farmyard spaces, and your first field on any empty space. Later pastures must be adjacent to an existing pasture, and later fields to an existing field. Diagonals do not count as adjacent.
