How is the green science scoring calculated?
The rulebook's science scoring spells out both parts.

For each symbol type, score the square of how many you have (1, 4, 9, 16...). Then add 7 points for each complete set of three different symbols. Each symbol is used once per set, so three of one type and two each of the others gives 9+4+4 plus two sets (14) = 31.
